How Dental Insurance Works

Every dental insurance plan comes with its own unique set of details and stipulations, so you have to review your specific policy to find out how it works. In the meantime, here is an overview of the coverage that is standard among many PPO dental plans:

  • Preventive care: Up to 100% covered.
  • Minor services: Up to 80% covered.
  • Major services: Up to 50% covered.
  • Orthodontia: Covered up to 50% under some premium plans.
  • Cosmetic treatment: Generally not covered.

You can also expect your plan to have a deductible, a waiting period before you are eligible for certain types of coverage, and an annual limit on how much your insurance company will pay for approved services.

What Is the Difference Between Dental & Medical Insurance?

Medical insurance is all about helping patients care for their head-to-toe health. However, it does not traditionally cover important preventive dental services, such as cleanings and exams. In some cases, it can help to pay for major oral procedures, including some types of oral surgeries. Dental insurance has a strong preventive focus and provides the highest coverage levels for treatments that will prevent your oral health from developing major problems.

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network

Our team welcomes all PPO dental plans! Whether we are in your plan’s network or outside of it, we are ready to help you navigate your benefits and use them in a way that minimizes your out-of-pocket obligation.

In-Network Coverage

If a practice is in-network with your insurance plan, it simply means they have a contract to control prices and encourage a certain level of care. Often, patient costs are lowest at in-network practices. Here at Ridgepointe Dental, we are proud to be in-network with Delta Dental.

Out-of-Network

We believe that high-quality care and patient needs take priority over dental insurance stipulations any day, so it is possible that we are not in-network with your plan. However, since PPO dental insurance allows you to visit any licensed dentist, you are still welcome to visit us! You may enjoy almost the same level of coverage that you would at an in-network dentist.
